Mental health of nursing Surgical Center team face to death

One of the causes of health workers emotional suffering is the imminent patients' risk of death present in everyday life. The aim of this study was to investigate the feelings of the Nursing Surgical Center staff of a teaching hospital in western Paraná, facing to the patients' death. This is a field research,qualitative in nature. Data collection occurred in June 2010 through an open questionnaire. The study sample consisted of three nurses, nine technicians and three nursing assistants. The results reveal hidden psychic suffening on the subject "Loss By Death". This form of protection suggests that the nursing stafff struggles to manage the sensations experienced in this environment. It's possible to notice the difference in feeling management according to the age of patient death. In general, participants deny the necessity of psychological support.
