Pain in ICU: Prevalence and Characteristics of flie perception by the patients do

This quantitative and transversal study identified the prevalence and the characteristics of pain and analgesia of patients from two ICU of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Ali inpatients during 4 2 days were ass ess ed . lnterviews involved 6 5 patients who attended the inclusion criteria. Forty nine patients (7 7%) referred pain 2 4 hours previous to the interview, 31 ( 48%) during the interview, 30 ( 46%) in both moments, and 51 (78.5%) expe rienced pain in some moment. lt was verified that 43% of the patients with pain during the interview received analgesics 6 hours previous to the interview, yet they felt pain. Pain intensity during the 2 4 hours previous to the interview was moderate for 23% of the patients and severe for 41%. The most frequent local of pain was the region of surgical intervention ( 42%). lt was observed that pain in !CU is frequent, of significant severity and that there is insufficient analgesic' s prescription.
