Objective: To analyze the local conditions of sterile products custody in medical clinics of large hospitals in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais State, Brazil. Method: An exploratory and descriptive study was carried out between May and September 2013. A validated instrument was used to conduct a descriptive analysis. Results: Thirty-three care units were visited, among them Intensive Care Units (39.4%), Surgical Centers (33.3%), and Emergency Departments (27.3%). The storage promises were identified (81.8%), made of washable coating (93.9%) and stored at closed cabinets (75.8%). The validity of the sterilization was observed in 97% of the institutions surveyed. Some areas were not exclusive to safe guard sterilized materials. Conclusion: There is a lack of published literature about the topic. It was found that the regulatory recommendations of healthcare agencies concerning storage conditions in care units of sterile products are not being entirely observed.References
